TeamHealth Expands Emergency Medicine Executive Leadership Team

(KNOXVILLE, Tennessee)– TeamHealth’s Emergency and Hospital Medicine Services division announced today the appointment of two executives to key leadership positions. Barbara Blevins joins the division in the newly created role of Chief Operating Officer, and Mark W. Harris, M.D., FACEP, has been promoted to Senior Vice President. Both appointments are effective October 1, 2008, and the executives will report to Jon Grimes, President, Emergency and Hospital Medicine Services.

“These appointments come at a very important time for the organization, and both of these individuals are key to our vision for service excellence,” said Grimes.

As COO, Blevins will work closely with the organization’s divisional leadership and client services personnel to advance the development of client-driven solutions in the support of new business development and client services. Prior to this appointment, Blevins served as CEO of Parkwest Medical Center, the 462-bed flagship facility of Covenant Health, a comprehensive health system headquartered in Knoxville, Tenn. During her tenure at Parkwest, Blevins championed the "Evidence Based Leadership Model" for all five acute care facilities in the Covenant Health system. Parkwest Medical Center has been recognized by HealthGrades as a five-star rated hospital and has been a Solucient Top 100 Heart Hospital for seven years.

As SVP, Dr. Harris will be charged with the development, execution and oversight of TeamHealth’s physician recruitment, retention and performance initiatives. He will assist in creating leadership development programs and accountability processes for the organization’s facility and regional medical directors and will work with the regional division leaders to support new business development, client services and provider recruiting efforts.
Dr. Harris has been with TeamHealth since 2005, serving as Director of Special Projects and Best Practices for the Patient Safety Office and as the Emergency Department Medical Director and Regional Emergency Services Continuous Quality Initiative Director for St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma, Wash.

“Barbara’s proven track record in working collaboratively with physician leaders in strategic planning and new program development initiatives makes her a great resource for TeamHealth,” says Grimes. “Dr. Harris brings facilitation of best practice skills and experience as a distinguished physician and medical leader to help us further build strong, long-term relationships with our physicians, other providers and hospital clients. They are both highly qualified professionals and will serve as outstanding additions to our team.”
